Verbreitet in gemäßigten Gewässern des Nordens: Großbritannien und Kattegat, stellenweise im Wattenmeer. Südnorwegen, Island, Neufundland, außerdem (vermutlich eingeschleppt) Westküste Kanandas und stellenweise Ostküste Südamerikas.
