Distribution	Nordhalbkugel, Schwarzes Meer bis Nordkap, Nord- und Ostsee Im Atlantik und Pazifik auf der Nordhalbkugel in flachen Küstengewässern überall in mehreren Teilpopulationen. An der Ostküste Amerikas, in Grönland und Island sowie an allen Küsten Zentraleuropas. Auch in der Ostsee und eine isolierte Population im Schwarzen Meer.
