Europa, Griechenland bis Spitzbergen, Nordsee bis Kattegat
Rein europäisch verbreitete Art, hier allerdings fast überall vom Schwarzen und Mittelmeer über alle Atlantikküsten und die gesamte Nordsee bis zum Kattegat. Weiter nördlich Einzelmeldungen bis zu den Färøern, Nordnorwegen und Spitzbergen, mituter auch recht weit offshore. Im nördlichen Wattenmeer derzeit nur fossile oder auf Treibgut, anscheinend nicht bodenständig.
