Weltweit, Kanaren bis Nordkap, Wattenmeer und Ostsee
Alle wärmeren Küsten Süd- und Mitteleuropas, außerdem stellenweise eingeschleppt in Ostkanada, Argentinien, Australien und Neuseeland. In Südeuropa auch im Binnenland, an Nord- und Ostsee nur küstennah bis Mittelschweden, nicht in Norwegen.
